In 1904, he graduated from Tokyo Fine Arts School, and in the summer of that year, he went on a sketching trip to Mera Beach in Chiba Prefecture with Morita Tsunetomo, Sakamoto Hanjiro, and Fukuda Taneru, and produced several seascapes that were influenced by Monet, as well as “Seafood,” which became not only Aoki’s masterpiece but also the culmination of Meiji Romanticism painting.
