A type of silk fabric. It is hand-woven tsumugi produced in 10 cities and 17 towns and villages throughout Nagano Prefecture, and is a designated traditional craft. There are Yamamayu tsumugi (wild silkworm tsumugi), Ueda tsumugi, Iida tsumugi, Ina tsumugi, Ashi tsumugi, Shike tsumugi, and Futori tsumugi. Ueda tsumugi began to be woven in the late 17th century and was known as Ueda stripes. At the end of the Edo period, there was even a feudal lord's tsumugi adjustment office. Other tsumugi producing areas had been producing since the early 18th century, and wild silkworm threads, especially Tensei silkworm threads, are highly valued. The warp threads are made of plain silk threads, dupioni threads, and hand tsumugi threads, and the weft threads are made of hand tsumugi threads, tsumugi threads, and tsumugi threads. 絹織物の一種。長野県全域10市17町村で生産される手織紬をいい,伝統的工芸品指定品。山繭紬(野蚕紬),上田紬,飯田紬,伊那紬,絁紬(あしつむぎ),絓紬(しけつむぎ),ふとり紬などがある。上田紬は17世紀後半から織りはじめられ,上田縞として知られていた。幕末には藩営の紬改所もあった。他の紬産地もすでに18世紀初期から生産され,野蚕とくに天蚕糸使いは希少価値がある。経糸は平絹糸,玉糸,手紬糸,緯糸は手紬糸,絁糸,絓糸が使われる。
