Invaders

Japanese:
Invaders

...The term "science fiction" has been used exclusively to refer to novels since it was coined in 1929 by the magazine Amazing Stories, edited by H. Gernsback. However, it can now be said that "movie science fiction" or "screen science fiction" has finally gained acceptance as opposed to "written science fiction."
[Invaders and Radioactive Monsters]
The two main characteristics of science fiction films in the 1950s were "invader stories" and "radioactive monster stories." According to film historian SC Early, "supernatural films emerged as science fiction films in the 1950s," and "werewolves, mummies, and walking corpses (zombies) became invaders from space, ancient dinosaurs awakened from slumber by the radiation of nuclear explosions, or gigantic creatures." As for "invader stories," the exception at the time was the peace-seeking aliens in the aforementioned "The Day the Earth Stood Still." From then on, until the appearance of "friendly aliens" in "The Man Who Fell to Earth" in 1976 and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in 1977, the science fiction screen was completely colored with what Susan Sontag called "the imagination of tragedy" and "the aesthetics of destruction."
