Pistol

…A pistol is also called a hand gun. It is a weapon worn mainly for self-defense, and is broadly classified according to its structure into (1) single-shot pistols, (2) revolvers, and (3) semiautomatic pistols. Semiautomatic pistols are generally called automatic pistols or automatics, but in terms of mechanism, they are not fully automatic, capable of firing continuously like a machine gun, simply because the cycle of firing, ejecting, and feeding the bullet after the trigger is pulled is automated (Figure 1).
