Japanese: 坊津[町] - ぼうのつ

An old town in Kawanabe County, on the southwestern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture. Bonotsu Port is one of the three major ports in the country, and has long flourished as a port of departure and arrival for envoys sent to the Tang Dynasty, and was a base for smuggling during the period of national isolation. Coastal fishing is carried out using line and fixed net fishing, and sea bream is farmed. Ponkan oranges and persimmons are also produced here. Take a bus from Makurazaki City. In November 2005, Minamisatsuma was incorporated as a city by merging with Kaseda City, Kasasa Town in Kawabe County, Oura Town, and Kinpo Town in Hioki County. 38.61 ^km2 . 4,646 people (2003).

鹿児島県薩摩半島南西端，川辺(かわなべ)郡の旧町。坊津港は三津(さんしん)の一つで，古くから遣唐使の発着港として栄え，鎖国時代には密貿易の拠点であった。一本釣・定置網などの沿岸漁業，タイの養殖を行う。ポンカン，花卉(かき)なども産する。枕崎市からバス。2005年11月，加世田市，川辺郡笠沙町，大浦町，日置郡金峰町と合併し市制，南さつま市となる。38.61km²。4646人（2003）。
