Anion exchange resin - anion exchange resin

Anion exchange resin - anion exchange resin

A solid or gel-like synthetic resin with an ammonium salt structure. The anions of the ammonium salt are exchanged with anions in an aqueous solution. Synthetic resins are styrene-based, acrylic-based, etc., and are broadly divided into strong basic anion exchange resins and weak basic anion exchange resins. Strong basic anion exchange resins have ammonium salts in the form of quaternary ammonium salts (-N(CH 3 ) 3 (X)), and are generally used with X in the form of hydroxide ions. They exchange with anions in solution and release OH - . Weak basic anion exchange resins have a tertiary amine (-N(CH 3 ) 2 ) structure, and are generally used in the free base form. Product names include Amberlite and Sumilite. In addition to being used with cation exchange resins to make pure water, they are also used to purify amino acids and organic acids, to decolorize foods such as sugar, to adsorb metal complex anions, and as anion exchange resin preparations for stomach pain and liver dysfunction. Membrane-like ion exchange resins are called ion exchange membranes.
