Iwashobu - Iwashobu

Japanese: イワショウブ - いわしょうぶ

A perennial herb of the lily family (APG classification: Ceratopogonaceae). The leaves are alternate and dense in two rows, sword-shaped, 10-40 cm long, and 4-8 mm wide. In July and August, an upright flower stalk 20-40 cm high appears between the leaves. The upper part of the stalk and the inflorescence are densely covered with glandular projections, making them sticky. The raceme is 2-7 cm long and bears numerous white flowers, each about 7 mm in diameter. It has six stamens and black-purple anthers. The capsule is elliptical, about 1 cm long. The seeds are small, with a long, slender, curved appendage at one end. It grows mainly in the mountainous and alpine marshes of central and northern Honshu. It is similar to T. glutinosa (Michx.) Pers. in eastern North America.

ユリ科（APG分類：チシマゼキショウ科）の多年草。葉は左右2列に密に互生し、剣状で長さ10～40センチメートル、幅4～8ミリメートル。7～8月、葉間から高さ20～40センチメートルの直立した花茎を出す。茎の上部と花序には腺(せん)状突起が密生し、ねばねばする。総状花序は長さ2～7センチメートル、白色で径約7ミリメートルの花を多数つける。雄しべは6本、葯(やく)は黒紫色を帯びる。蒴果(さくか)は楕円(だえん)形、長さ約1センチメートル。種子は小さく、その一端に細長く、曲がった付属部がある。おもに本州中北部の山地、高山の湿原内に生育する。北アメリカ東部のT. glutinosa (Michx.) Pers.に類似する。
