It was founded in 1898 as the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party, and after the Russian Revolution, its name changed to the Russian Communist Party (Bolshevik) in 1918, the Vsesoyuznaya Kommunisticheskaya partiya (bol'shevikov) in 1925, and then became the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1952 (hereafter referred to as the party).
