Ichinomiya, Iyo Province

...It is located on Omishima Island (Omishima-cho, Ochi-gun, Ehime Prefecture) in the center of the Seto Inland Sea. It is also called Omishima Shrine. It enshrines Oyamatsumi-no-kami. It was formerly a national shrine. Oyamatsumi-no-kami is considered a mountain god in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, but there is also a legend that he was called Watashi-no-Okami and came from Baekje (a lost text in the Iyo no Kuni Fudoki). He descended from the Ochi clan, an old clan in the Ochi region, and became the ruler of Iyo. Since he received the worship of the Kono clan, who also developed on the sea, he also has the character of a guardian deity of the sea. In 766 (Tenpyo Jingo 2), he was awarded the rank of Junior Fourth Rank and was assigned five households in Kanbe, and in 875 (Jogan 17), he was promoted to Senior Second Rank....
