Born on January 15, 1892. Served as a teacher at Seijo Elementary School and Jiyu Gakuen. After observing education in the Soviet Union, he developed an interest in Marxist pedagogy, and in 1930 founded the New Education Research Institute, where he worked to popularize proletarian education. Died on July 10, 1965, at the age of 73. Born in Kagoshima Prefecture. Graduated from Kagoshima Normal School. His real name was Mori Tokuji, and Yamashita was his maiden name.
