An island in the northern part of Okinawa Prefecture, it is one of the Iheya Izena Islands. It is also the main island of Iheya Village. Its area is 20.59 square kilometers. The highest point is Mount Kayo, 294 meters high. The entire island is made up of Palaeozoic mountains, with small alluvial lowlands developing between the mountains. The coast is surrounded by fringing coral reefs, and the coastal sand dunes are well developed. Population 1,253 (2009).
