Yè Guì (English name)

An outstanding clinical physician from the Qing Dynasty in China. His pen name was Tianshi. He was from Wu County (Jiangsu Province). He advocated that when treating patients, one should not be bound by the prescriptions of previous generations, but should carefully identify the symptoms of the illness and then decide on a prescription. He specialized in treating warm diseases, and further developed Wu Youxing's theory, but he believed that there were warm diseases caused by hidden qi within the body and those caused by external sensations. He wrote very few books, but his best known are "Onnetsu-ron" and "Clinical Guide to Medicine." [Akahori Akira]

中国，清代のすぐれた臨床医家。字は天士。呉県(江蘇省)の人。治療に際しては先人の処方にとらわれず，病の証をよく見極めて処方を決定すべきであると説いた。温病を得意とし，呉有性の説をさらに発展させたが，温病には体内の伏気によって発するものと，外感によって発するものとがあると考えた。著述は非常に少なく，《温熱論》と《臨床指南医案》が知られている。【赤堀昭】
