<br /> The remains of a residence in Sawara, Katori City, Chiba Prefecture. In 1930 (Showa 5), ​​this was designated a national historic site as the home of Edo period geographer Ino Tadataka, who ran a sake brewing and rice business. A row of stately earthen storehouse-style houses remains around the Ono River that runs through the center of town, and this former home is located in one area of ​​the area. Tadataka was born in 1745 (Enkyo 2) in Ozeki Village, Yamabe County, Kazusa Province, and at the age of 18, he was adopted into the Ino family, whose family business was sake brewing and rice business. In 1800 (Kansei 12) he applied to the shogunate and began surveying Ezochi , and thereafter, over a period of 17 years, he worked on creating a map of Japan based on nationwide surveys. Tadataka died at the age of 74 in 1818 (Bunsei 1) without completing a map of the entire country, but his disciples were able to complete his work in the form of the "Dai Nihon Enkai Yochi Zenzu." The former house is a single-story building with a tiled roof, consisting of a storehouse at the front and the main house at the back. The storehouse has an earthen floor, two rooms of 4.5 tatami mats, one room of 3 tatami mats, and one room of 7.5 tatami mats, and is connected to the main house by an earthen floor. The main house is said to have been designed by Tadataka himself, and consists of one room of 8 tatami mats, three rooms of 6 tatami mats, an entrance, an inner entrance, and a kitchen, and on the east side, across a ditch, there is a two-story tiled storehouse. The Ino Tadataka Memorial Museum, which stores and displays Tadataka's belongings, is nearby. It is about a 10-minute walk from JR Narita Line Sawara Station.

千葉県香取市佐原にある住居跡。江戸時代の地理学者伊能忠敬が酒造・米穀業を営んだ居宅として、1930年(昭和5)に国の史跡に指定された。町の中心を流れる小野川周辺には重厚な土蔵造りの家並みが残り、この旧宅もその一画に所在。忠敬は1745年(延享2)に上総国(かずさのくに)山辺郡小関村に生まれ、18歳のとき、酒造・米穀業を家業とする伊能家の養子となる。1800年(寛政12)に幕府に願い出て、蝦夷地(えぞち)の測量を始め、以後、17年間に及ぶ全国の測量に基づいて日本地図の作成を手がけた。忠敬は全国地図未完成のまま1818年(文政1)に74歳で没したが、遺業は門人の手によって「大日本沿海輿地全図」として完成をみた。旧宅は瓦葺き平屋建てで、表の店舖と奥の母屋からなり、店舗は土間、4畳半2室、3畳1室、7畳半1室からなり、土間で母屋に続いている。母屋は忠敬自身が設計したといわれ、8畳1室、6畳3室、玄関、内玄関、台所からなり、東側には溝を隔てて2階建ての瓦葺きの土蔵がある。忠敬の遺品を保管・展示している伊能忠敬記念館が近接する。JR成田線佐原駅から徒歩約10分。
