Masanaga Inoue

Masanaga Inoue
1654-1721 * A daimyo in the mid-Edo period.
Born in 1600. The third son of Inoue Masato. In 1603, he was granted 3,000 koku by his older brother Masamine, the lord of Hachiman Domain in Mino (Gifu Prefecture). He served as a chief retainer to Tokugawa Tsunatoyo (Ienobu), the lord of Fuchū Domain in Kai (Yamanashi Prefecture), and became a member of the Nishimaru Osoba-shu (side retainers) following Ienobu's succession as shogun. His stipulations were increased to 10,000 koku, and in 1612, he became the first head of the Inoue family to rule Shimotsuma Domain in Hitachi (Ibaraki Prefecture). In 1613, he became the soshaban (representative) and magistrate of temples and shrines. He died on December 4, 1617, at the age of 67.

承応(じょうおう)3年生まれ。井上正任(まさとう)の3男。元禄(げんろく)6年美濃(みの)(岐阜県)八幡(はちまん)藩主の兄正岑(まさみね)より3000石を分与される。甲斐(かい)(山梨県)府中藩主徳川綱豊(家宣(いえのぶ))に家老としてつかえ,将軍継嗣となった家宣にしたがって西丸御側衆(おそばしゅう)。家宣の遺命により1万石に加増され,正徳(しょうとく)2年常陸(ひたち)(茨城県)下妻(しもつま)藩主井上家初代となる。5年奏者番兼寺社奉行。享保(きょうほう)5年12月4日死去。67歳。
