Mikawa Plateau

Mikawa Plateau
A plateau in northeastern Aichi Prefecture. It is the southern part of the Mino-Mikawa Plateau, and the eastern part is an uplifted peneplain made up mainly of Ryoke metamorphic rocks, while the western part is made up mainly of granite. The elevation is around 1000m in the north and decreases as you move south. The highest point is Chausuyama (1416m) on the border with Nagano Prefecture. The eastern part of the plateau is a beautiful cedar forest area, and Chausuyama, Sakuma Dam, Oonyu Valley, Iwakoyayama, and other sights are part of Tenryu-Okumikawa Quasi-National Park. The western part of the plateau is part of Aichi Highlands Quasi-National Park, and includes Korankei and Kanpachikyo Gorge, and is also within commuting distance of the Toyota Motor Industrial Area.

愛知県北東部の高原。美濃三河高原の南部にあたり,東部は領家変成岩,西部は花崗岩を主とする隆起準平原で,標高は北部で 1000m前後,南下するにつれて低くなる。最高点は長野県境にある茶臼山 (1416m) 。高原の東部はスギの美林地帯であり,茶臼山,佐久間ダム,大入 (おおにゅう) 渓谷,岩古谷山などがあって天竜奥三河国定公園に属する。高原西部は香嵐渓,勘八峡などがあって愛知高原国定公園に属し,豊田自動車工業圏への通勤圏でもある。
