Inano (rice field)

...The residential urbanization was triggered by the development of housing land by the Hankyu Railway, but it wasn't until the 1950s that the population really started to grow rapidly, and the development of the terraced areas to the west and north of the old city progressed rapidly. The terraced areas on the west bank of the Inagawa River, 30 to 100 meters above sea level, were called Inano (rice field) and were home to many irrigation ponds. The largest of these, Koya Pond, is said to have been built by the monk Gyoki around the Tenpyo period (729-749). Osaka International Airport (commonly known as Itami Airport), located on the border with Toyonaka City, was built in 1937 as an airport for the Ministry of Communications, and was designated a Type 1 airport and renamed in 1959.
