A town in Kato District, Hokkaido. The northern part is part of Daisetsuzan National Park, and occupies the upper reaches of the Otofuke River, which originates from Mt. Ishikari. The southeastern part is the Tokachi Plain, which produces beans, potatoes, and sugar beets. The town also has a lumber industry. Lake Nukabira is located here. Area: 694.23 km2 . 北海道河東(かとう)郡の町。北部は大雪山国立公園の一部で，石狩岳に発する音更(おとふけ)川上流部を占める。南東部は十勝平野で豆類，ジャガイモ，テンサイを産する。木材工業も行う。糠平(ぬかびら)湖がある。694.23km2。5080人（2010）。
