One theory is that he died on February 22nd. His surname was Fujiwara, his given name was Sojo, and his pen name was Motomu. He was also known by the pen names Tan'an and Jiido. He studied under Emura Sensai and Nawa Katsusho. He became a Confucian scholar in the Echizen Fukui domain, and retired to Kyoto in his later years. At the time, he was well known for his poetry and prose, and his name appeared in the ukiyo-zoshi Genroku Taiheiki along with his friend Kitayama Yusen.
