...A government that is established legally is called a de jure government, while a government that is established illegally through revolution, coup, etc. is called a de facto government. They are divided into general de facto governments, whose power extends to the general territory of a nation, and local de facto governments, whose power extends only to parts of a region. The former are subject to government recognition, while the latter are subject to recognition by a belligerent group. A general de facto government cannot officially represent its own country in negotiations with other countries or claim rights under international law in its own name unless it is recognized as a government by that country.
