Alphabetic writing

...In the Chinese writing system, kanji characters represent one syllable, so they appear to be both word characters and syllabaries. However, syllabaries are, in principle, free variations in which the individual characters are not directly linked to meaning, and even if different characters are used to represent the same syllable, such as in variant kana, their usage is not fixed for each word. In contrast, kanji characters, in principle, use different characters for different words.
[Phonetic alphabet]
Alphabetic writing is represented by the Roman alphabet, and each character has the property of analyzing the sounds of a word and expressing them as phonemes, as in the Japanese word 'head', which is written as 'atama' in five Roman letters. The name 'monophonic writing' is avoided because it is not common to write many single sounds with many phonetic variations, and what is expressed is closer to a phoneme, the smallest phonological unit in each language.
