Fujinaga Isshiki

Year of birth: Year of birth unknown. Military commander during the Sengoku and Azuchi-Momoyama periods. Son of Isshiki Harutomo, a personal attendant to the Muromachi Shogunate. Born in Kyoto. Junior Fifth Rank, Shikibu Shoyu. In 1563 (Eiroku 6), he was a member of the Shogunate's entourage. In 1569 (Eiroku 8), Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru was killed violently, and his younger brother Ichijoin Kakukei (Yoshiaki) was also imprisoned in Kofuku-ji Temple, but Fujinaga, with the help of Hosokawa Fujitaka and others, helped him escape. He then lived in exile with Yoshiaki in Omi, Wakasa, and Echizen, but was reinstated as a personal attendant to the Shogun when Yoshiaki entered Kyoto in September of the same year. In July 1573 (Tensho 1), after Yoshiaki was exiled by Oda Nobunaga, he lived in exile again with Yoshiaki, and became a guest commander under the Mori clan. Konchiin (Ishin) Suden was his nephew.

戦国・安土桃山時代の武将。室町幕府近習一色晴具の子。京都生まれ。従五位下式部少輔。永禄6(1563)年には幕府御供衆。同8年将軍足利義輝が横死し,その弟一乗院覚慶(義昭)も興福寺に幽閉されたが,藤長は細川藤孝らと計ってこれを脱出させた。その後義昭と共に近江,若狭,越前と流寓するが,同11年9月の義昭入京によって将軍近習に復活する。天正1(1573)年7月義昭が織田信長に追放されて以降は再び義昭と共に流寓し,毛利氏のもとに客将となる。金地院(以心)崇伝はおいに当たる。
