One-season servant - Ikkihokounin

Japanese: 一季奉公人 - いっきほうこうにん
One-season servant - Ikkihokounin

...However, in the early modern period, this gradually changed to farmers employed through lodgings (jobbers, Keian), daily employment agencies, and townspeople employed as monthly or semi-monthly servants, or day laborers, all of whom were paid by the townspeople. The Edo Shogunate began to strictly prohibit seasonal servants from around the Keicho period (1596-1615) (which probably indicates that there were many seasonal servants), and tried to maintain the system of fudai servants in order to secure military service. In 1616 (Genwa 2), the term of service was extended to three years, and in 1625 (Kan'ei 2), it was extended to ten years (this system was abolished in 1698 (Genroku 11)).
