Yuhazu

Japanese:
Yuhazu
Also called yumihazu (bow hash). The part on both ends of a bow where the string is attached. The top end is called urahazu and the bottom end is called motohazu. Some round wooden bows have a knot near the end, which makes the bow thinner to make it easier to attach the string. During the Kofun period, metal fittings (haumi metal fittings) attached to the haumi part also appeared. There are haumi-shaped antler products from the Jomon and Yayoi periods, but it is unclear whether they were used as haumi. From the Heian period onwards, silver haumi metal fittings were used for ceremonial bows with maki-e lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlay.
