Also called yumihazu (bow hash). The part on both ends of a bow where the string is attached. The top end is called urahazu and the bottom end is called motohazu. Some round wooden bows have a knot near the end, which makes the bow thinner to make it easier to attach the string. During the Kofun period, metal fittings (haumi metal fittings) attached to the haumi part also appeared. There are haumi-shaped antler products from the Jomon and Yayoi periods, but it is unclear whether they were used as haumi. From the Heian period onwards, silver haumi metal fittings were used for ceremonial bows with maki-e lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlay. ゆみはず (弓筈) ともいう。弓の両端の弦をかける部分。上端を末弭 (うらはず) ,下端を本弭 (もとはず) という。丸木弓では末端近くに節をつけ,その近くを細くして,弦をかけやすくしているものもある。古墳時代には弭の部分に着装する金具 (弭金物) も出現している。縄文時代や弥生時代に弭形の鹿角製品があるが,これの用途が弭であるかどうかは不明。平安時代以後,儀仗用の蒔絵弓や螺鈿 (らでん) 弓には,銀の弭金物を用いた。
