An aristocrat and geographer from the Wei and Western Jin dynasties (→ Jin) of the Three Kingdoms period in China. Born in Hedong Wenxi (Wenxi County, Shanxi Province). His courtesy name was Jiyan. He served under Cao Shuang, a powerful Wei official, but after Cao's death he defected to Shuang's political enemy, Sima Zhao, and was highly esteemed. At the end of the Wei dynasty, he considered reforming the government system, and was instrumental in helping Sima Yan (→ Emperor Wu) become King Wen's heir, Sima Zhao. In the Western Jin dynasty, he became Minister of the Secretariat and Minister of State under Emperor Wu. He had a deep knowledge of geography, and created the Yugong Regional Map (18 volumes). He is said to be the father of Chinese cartography.

中国，三国の魏，西晋 (→晋) の貴族，地理学者。河東聞喜 (山西省聞喜県) の人。字は季彦。魏の権臣曹爽の部下となったが，その死後爽の政敵司馬昭のもとに走り，重んじられた。魏末，官制改革を検討し，また司馬炎 (→武帝) が文王司馬昭の世子となるのに功があった。西晋になると武帝のもとで尚書令，司空となった。地理学に造詣深く，『禹貢地域図』 (18編) を作成。中国地図学の祖といわれる。
