Variant Kana - Itai-gana

Japanese: 異体仮名 - いたいがな

〘Noun〙 A "kana" with a different style of writing than the commonly used "kana". Katakana, which were mainly derived from the abbreviated forms of Chinese characters, include those that are abbreviated in a different way from the common way, such as "尹 (Ii)", "由 (Uu)", and "子 (Ne)". Hiragana, which were derived from the cursive writing of Chinese characters, include those that have a different origin from the common way of writing characters and those that are written in a different way from the cursive way, such as "(a)" from "阿", "(ka)" from "可", and "(na)" from "奈". In the case of hiragana, the variants are often "na".

〘名〙一般に使用されている「かな」とは異なっている字体の「かな」。主として漢字の略体から出たカタカナでは、通用のと異なる略し方によるもの、たとえば「尹（伊イ）」「于（宇ウ）」「（子ネ）」などがあり、また漢字の草書から出たひらがなでは、通用のものと字源を異にするものと、草書のしかたの異なるもの、たとえば「阿」からの「（あ）」、「可」からの「（か）」、「奈」からの「（な）」などがある。ひらがなの場合は、特に変体がなということが多い。
