...It is said that it was first performed in January 1676 (Enpo 4) at the Edo Nakamuraza, but since the Kyoho era (1716-36) and after, when Soga Kyogen became a customary play for the first spring performances in Edo Kabuki, it was always performed as the first and final act, and various variations were created at each theater each year. In the Meiji era, Kawatake Mokuami standardized the style of the script, which has been passed down in recent years, and it is performed alone as a one-act play under the title Kotobuki Soga no Taimen (Long-lived Soga Encounter) or Kichirei Soga no Ishizue (Auspicious Soga Foundation).
