Sadamitsu Ise

Year of birth: Unknown. A Shogunate official during the Warring States period. Son of Sadamune. Shichiro, Hyogo no Kami, Bitchu no Kami, and Ise no Kami. Junior Fourth Rank Upper. Original name Sadataka. After retirement, he called himself Kikosai. In 1490 (Entoku 2), he became the steward of the Mandokoro when Ashikaga Yoshitane became Shogun, and served in that position until 1521 (Taiei 1). In December 1485 (Bunmei 17), an uprising in Yamashiro Province led to the replacement of Hatakeyama Masanaga as Shugo, and he was appointed as Yamashiro Shugo. This personnel change symbolized that the province was the last economic base of the Muromachi Shogunate. He was reappointed as Shugo in August 1493 (Meiō 2) when the uprising was put down, but in the same year, Kozai Motonaga, a vassal of the Hosokawa clan, took over as Shugodai, and Yamashiro became the territory of the Hosokawa clan. Moreover, his father, Sadamune, was still alive during his tenure as steward and provincial governor, and so real power was in his hands. In his later years, he left behind many writings on historical facts.

戦国時代の幕府吏僚。貞宗の子。七郎,兵庫頭,備中守,伊勢守。従四位上。初名貞隆。隠居後,汲古斎と号す。延徳2(1490)年足利義稙の将軍就任とともに政所執事となり,大永1(1521)年まで在任。文明17(1485)年12月の山城国一揆による畠山政長の守護更迭後,山城守護に就任。これは同国が室町幕府最後の経済基盤であることを象徴する人事であった。同国一揆鎮圧の明応2(1493)年8月にも守護に再任されたが,同6年には守護代を細川被官の香西元長が占め,山城は細川氏の領国と化す。しかも執事,守護在任中は父貞宗が存命で,実権は父が握っていた。晩年には故実の著作を多く残した。
