Faith healing
〘 noun 〙① A type of magic in primitive societies, used by shamans to treat illnesses through spells, incantations, prayers, etc. ② A type of psychotherapy that indirectly treats illnesses by utilizing the benefits of faith. It is particularly emphasized in Christian Science ( a branch of Christian faith healing founded in the United States in 1879).

〘名〙① 未開社会での呪術の一つで、巫医(ふい)のまじない、加持、祈祷などによる病気の治療。② 信仰の効用を利用して、間接的に疾病を治療する精神療法の一つ。クリスチャン‐サイエンス(一八七九年、アメリカに創立されたキリスト教信仰治療主義の一派)が特に強調する。
