Ishimaru Iwaminokami - Ishimaru Iwaminokami

...A shogunate official in the early Edo period. Son of Ishimaru Sadamasa, head of the Oguni-gumi, he was commonly known as Fujizo. He was first Awaji no Kami and later Iwami no Kami. In 1663 (Kanbun 3), at the age of 60, he became the magistrate of Higashimachi, Osaka. He had excellent skills in economic policy, and contributed to the industrial development of Osaka by mediating disputes among oil merchants, protecting the Tenma vegetable market, officially recognizing cotton merchants, and establishing a law on firewood sales. He also worked to provide relief to the poor during major fires, tsunamis, and floods, and was known as a great magistrate. He died while still in office at the age of 77. [Fujimoto Atsushi]...
