《Ishikawa Goemon》

…First performed at the Toyotakeza Theater in Osaka in July 1737 (Genbun 2). Based on previous plays such as Matsumoto Jidayu's original Ishikawa Goemon (around the time of the Sadayoshi era) and Chikamatsu Monzaemon's The Courtesan Yoshioka Some (1712), the main character is the great thief Ishikawa Goemon. Goemon picks up an arrow from a deer hunt in Hirakata, Kawachi Province, and pretends to have been wounded by the arrow, pretends to be a beggar woman and is his mother.
