Efficient Consumer Response. A strategy in which retailers, wholesalers, and manufacturers partner and work closely together to reduce excess costs in the food supply chain. ECR focuses on four areas to increase efficiency. Increase category product sales per unit of floor space and optimize product handling and floor allocation to improve inventory turnover. Maximize the efficiency of logistics from when products are manufactured to when they are placed on store shelves. Reduce sales negotiation and sales promotion costs. Reduce costs required to develop and launch new products. Learning from QR (Quick Response), which was successful in the clothing industry, it was announced in 1993 and efforts began in the food industry. If ECR is fully adopted and effective, it is said that $130 billion in distribution inventory will be reduced in the food industry supply chain and inventory days will be shortened from 100 to 60 days.
