Heritage Attribution War - Issankizoku Senso

...war in which France invaded the southern Netherlands (now Belgium and parts of northern France). Also called the "war of inheritance (guerre de devolution)." France had long advocated the Rhine as a "natural border" and had sought to annex the area south of the Rhine, but after the death of King Philip IV of Spain (father-in-law of Louis XIV) in September 1665, Louis claimed the area as belonging to his queen, Marie-Thérèse, on the pretext of the ancient customary law of the Southern Netherlands.
