A city located in the northeastern part of Saitama Prefecture, occupying the alluvial lowlands on the west bank of the Old Tone River. It was incorporated as a city in 1971. The city center has developed as a market town since the early modern period. It is served by the Tohoku Main Line and the Tobu Isesaki Line, and is the site of the Tohoku Expressway Kuki Interchange, where the Ken-O Expressway branches off. It is the transportation and administrative center of the northeastern part of the prefecture, and is home to many public facilities such as the Prefectural Horticultural Research Institute. In 1993, Tokyo University of Science opened. It was an agricultural region that produced a lot of rice and pears, but it has been developed into residential areas, and the population has increased rapidly due to the construction of the Kuki Shobu Industrial Park. In March 2010, it merged with Shobu Town in Minami Saitama County, Kurihashi Town in Kitakatsushika County, and Washinomiya Town. 埼玉県北東部,古利根川西岸の沖積低地を占める市。1971年市制。中心市街は近世以来市場町として発達。東北本線,東武伊勢崎線が通じ,東北自動車道久喜インターチェンジがあり,圏央道が分岐する。県北東部の交通・行政の中心都市で,県立園芸研究所など多くの公共施設が集まり,1993年には東京理科大学が開校した。米,ナシを多産する農業地域であったが,宅地化が進み,久喜菖蒲工業団地の造成により人口が急増した。2010年3月南埼玉郡菖蒲町,北葛飾郡栗橋町,鷲宮町と合併。東日本大震災で,市内において被害が発生。82.41km2。15万4310人(2010)。
