Antimony pentoxide is the name of the hydrate of Sb 2 O 5. It is produced by hydrolysis of hexachloroantimonic acid. 2HSbCl 6 +5H 2 O→Sb 2 O 5 +12HCl It is a colorless powder that is slightly soluble in water. When heated above 300°C, it loses oxygen and gradually changes to Sb 2 O 4. It is an amphoteric compound that reacts with both acids and alkalis. In aqueous solution, it is thought to take the form H + [Sb(OH) 6 ] - , but this is not certain.
