Japanese: 諸葛孔明 - しょかつこうめい

Prime minister of Shu during the Three Kingdoms period in China. His name was Liang. He initially farmed in the west of Xiangyang, Hubei Province, but was acquainted with Liu Bei and served him. He planned to divide the world into three parts, and helped Liu Bei to become the ruler of Shu Han. After Liu Bei's death, he helped his son Liu Shan and led an army to Yunnan while fighting against Wei. The "Shuishi no Hyō" (A Letter of Military Dispatch) that he presented at the time of his campaign is famous as a masterpiece. He later died of an illness at Wuzhang Plains while facing the Wei army.

中国，三国時代の蜀の丞相。名は亮(りょう)。初め湖北省襄陽の西で自耕していたが，劉備(りゅうび)の知遇に感じてこれに仕え，天下三分の計をたて，劉備をたすけて蜀漢の主とした。劉備の死後はその子の劉禅をたすけ，魏と戦いつつ雲南までも出兵した。その出征のとき奉った〈出師表(すいしのひょう)〉は名文として名高い。のち魏軍と対陣中，五丈原で病死した。
