…He participated in the siege of Numantia (133 BC) as a commander of reinforcements from Numidia during the reign of his uncle King Micipsa, and was recognized by Scipio the Younger, becoming acquainted with the noble families of Rome. After the death of his uncle, he ascended to the throne together with his uncle's surviving sons Adherbal and Hiempsal, but he opposed Micipsa's policy by calling for a change, which led to a civil war (118 BC). Even after the kingdom was divided in half through Roman mediation, the conflict continued, and Jugurtha rebelled against the Senate and overthrew Adherbal (112 BC), leading to Rome declaring war (the Jugurthine War). …
