Actinopterygii is a subclass of bony fishes. The Actinopterygii subclass is further divided into three superorders, Chondrostei (Chondrostei), Holostei (Holostei), and Teleostei (Teleostei), in order of primitiveness. The rays of the pectoral fin are attached to the coracoid and scapula of the shoulder girdle via the projections. Teleostei have thin scales, and are round or pectinate, whereas holostei and soft-finned fish have hard ganoine scales. As a rule, there are two nostrils on each side of the head. Actinopterygii are extremely diverse, and it is nearly impossible to list traits common to all species. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
