Emperor Jomei

593－641 The 34th Emperor of the Asuka period. Reigned 629-641.
Born in the first year of the reign of Empress Suiko. Prince Hikohito no Oe. His mother was Princess Nukatehime (Princess Tamura). After the death of Empress Suiko, he competed with King Yamashiro no Oe for the throne, and was recommended by Soga no Emishi to ascend to the throne. His empress was Princess Takara (later Empress Kogyoku and Empress Saimei). Inukami Mitasuki, Yakushi Enichi and others were sent as the first Japanese envoys to Tang China. He also deepened ties with Baekje and Silla. He died on October 9, 13th year of the reign of Emperor Jomei. He was 49 years old. His grave is in Osaka no Misasagi (Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture). His given name was Tamura. His other names were Emperor Okinagatarashihihironukanosumeramikoto, Emperor Takaichi, and Emperor Okamoto.

推古天皇元年生まれ。彦人大兄(ひこひとのおおえの)皇子の王子。母は糠手姫(ぬかてひめの)皇女(田村皇女)。推古天皇の没後,山背大兄(やましろのおおえの)王と皇位をあらそい,蘇我蝦夷(そがの-えみし)に推され即位。皇后は宝皇女(のち皇極・斉明天皇)。犬上御田鍬(いぬかみの-みたすき),薬師恵日(くすしの-えにち)らを第1回遣唐使として派遣。百済(くだら),新羅(しらぎ)とも関係をふかめた。舒明天皇13年10月9日死去。49歳。墓所は押坂内陵(おさかのうちのみささぎ)(奈良県桜井市)。諱(いみな)は田村。別名に息長足日広額天皇(おきながたらしひひろぬかのすめらみこと),高市天皇,岡本天皇。
