Legal profession - Hoso

A person who practices law as a bearer of the judicial system. As today's judicial system is supported by judges, prosecutors, and lawyers, the term generally refers to these three legal professions, but it can also refer to judicial officers (judges) alone. In Japan, the judicial system is operated as a unified unit, so in the first stage of legal training, these three legal professions are trained in a unified manner through the legal trainee system.

司法制度の担い手として法律実務に従事する者。今日の司法制度が裁判官、検察官および弁護士の三者により担われているところから、一般的にはこれら法曹三者をいうが、司法官（裁判官）のみをさす場合もある。わが国では司法制度が三者一体となって運営されるべきものという趣旨から、法曹養成の第一段階では、司法修習生の制度により、これら法曹三者は統一的に養成される。
