Domestic cat - Ieneko (English spelling)

A mammalian animal in the order Carnivora, family Felidae. A domesticated cat in the same family. Its ancestor was the African wildcat F. sylvestris lybica, which was domesticated by the ancient Egyptians around 1500-1300 BC. Originally kept to catch mice, today it is mainly kept as a pet, and there are about 30 varieties.

哺乳(ほにゅう)綱食肉目ネコ科の動物。同科に属する飼いならされたネコ。祖先はリビアヤマネコF. sylvestris lybicaで、古代エジプト人により紀元前1500～前1300年ごろには家畜化されていた。本来はネズミをとらえるために飼われたが、今日ではおもにペットとして飼われており、約30種ほどの品種がある。
