Italian author. Born in Dalmatia. He wrote poetry, novels, critiques, translations, and lexicography, but also led a turbulent life as a patriot during the Risorgimento era. After graduating from the University of Padua, he became acquainted with Manzoni, whom he respected and respected for the rest of his life. He fled to France in 1834-39 after his anti-Austrian articles in the magazine Antologia were anathema to the authorities. After returning to Italy, he settled in Venice and joined the republican government there in 1848, but the republic collapsed the following year, and he lived in exile again on the island of Corfu.

イタリアの作家。ダルマツィア出身。詩，小説，評論，翻訳，辞書編纂など多岐にわたる文筆活動を続けながら，リソルジメント時代の愛国者として波乱に富んだ一生を送った。パドバ大学を卒業後，マンゾーニの知遇を得，生涯変わらぬ敬愛の念を抱く。雑誌《アントロジーア》に載せた反オーストリア的記事が当局の忌諱に触れ，1834‐39年フランスに亡命する。帰国後ベネチアに居を定め，48年同地の共和国政府に参加するが，翌年共和国が崩壊，コルフ島で再度の亡命生活を送る。
