The moment the sword is drawn from its sheath, the outcome of the match is decided. Iai is the swordsman version of the Western "gunslinger." Iai-do is a martial art that inherits the "principle of the sword" of Iai, in which the movement at the moment the sword is drawn determines the outcome of the match, and does not have an opponent, but an "imaginary opponent."
