[Raw] 1567? Bruage [Died] December 25, 1635. Quebec French explorer. Father of Canada. In 1598, he visited North America at the behest of the King of Spain, and in 1603, he explored the St. Lawrence River at the behest of the King of France. The following year, he worked hard to establish Port-Royal, the first French colony in North America. He then explored and surveyed the Acadia region. In 1608, he established a permanent colony in Quebec, and thereafter dedicated his life to the development of the colony. In 1627, he was appointed governor of the colony of New France, but before that, his footprints in North America stretched from the Great Lakes to northern New York. From 1628 to 1632, the British army occupied Quebec, during which time he was captured and sent back to France, but he returned to Quebec again in 1633 and died there. While he himself was in Quebec, he devoted himself to establishing trade and settlement in the colony, but his sending young men such as É. Brelay among the Native Americans to learn their languages, manners, and customs played a major role in laying the foundations of the colony of New France, which later became Canada.
