…It is a rocky mountain about 180 meters above sea level that stands about 30 km west of Polonnaruwa in Sri Lanka. It is said to have been the castle of King Kassapa I in the late 5th century. It was called the Lion's Mountain (Simha Giri) because it resembles a lion carrying the palace on its back, and the current name is a corruption of that. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Kassapa [I]" are listed below.
