In Greek mythology, he was the son of Poseidon's son Belos and the daughter of the Nile god Anchinoe. He was appointed ruler of Arabia by his father, but he later conquered Egypt and gave his name to the land. He had 50 sons, but they went to Argos to marry the 50 daughters of their father's brother Danaus, and were killed by their brides on their wedding night.
