A native government in Afghanistan under Mongol rule (1245-1389), which contributed to the preservation of Persian culture. Also known as the Kart dynasty. The Kurt family was a descendant of a vizier of the Ghorid dynasty, and ruled the castle of Haysar in the mountains of central Afghanistan. They cooperated with the Mongol invasion of India in the 1220s and were credited with their campaigns in India. Malik Shams al-Din of this family went to Mongolia and received a letter of edict from Mongke Khan (Hegemon), and came to rule the area from Amu Darya to the Indus River, with Herat as its center.
