Ankaku Palace Ruins

...After that, Pyongyang, the capital of the late Goguryeo period, prospered as a political, economic and military base. At that time, the ruins of Anhakgung Palace, which remains in Anhakgung-dong, Daeseong District, were used as the royal palace in peacetime, and Daeseongsanseong Fortress was built on the hill behind it to protect the royal capital in times of emergency. The royal palace was surrounded by a square wall with a side of about 620 meters, and the mountain fortress had walls with a circumference of about 7 km that encircle six peaks, forming an ellipse close to a pentagon.
