A folk performing art passed down throughout Tokushima Prefecture. A three-person puppet theater based on Gidayu-bushi. The puppets' large necks are a distinctive feature. In the past, it was performed on rural stages within the precincts of local shrines during festivals at various shrines. In the early modern period, it developed under the patronage of Hachisuka. During the Meiji period, more than 70 puppet theater troupes were active. In 1999, it was designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. 徳島県各地に伝わる民俗芸能。義太夫節による3人遣いの人形芝居。人形の首(かしら)が大きいことが特徴。かつては各地の神社の祭礼の際などに地元の神社境内の農村舞台で上演された。近世には蜂須賀の庇護をうけ発展。明治期には70を超える人形座が活動していた。1999年、国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定。
