...The use of stucco was particularly prominent in 18th-century German and Austrian Baroque architecture, and there were even villages where most of the residents were stucco workers. In the 19th century in England, J. Nash popularized a style of architecture in which the exterior walls of brick stucco were painted, and this style became known as "Regency stucco." In the so-called colonial style of architecture, wooden buildings were often finished with stucco to make them look like brick or stone.
