...The Old Kingdom is generally considered to extend from Telipinu to Allwamna, Hantili II, Zidanta II, and Khuziya II, but this periodization is not necessarily definitive.
[New Kingdom Period]
The early history of this period is also unclear due to the paucity of documents, but there are a relatively large number of chronicles and treaties written by the two kings and queens, Tudhariya II/Nikarmati and Arnuwanda II/Ashmunikar, which give us some insight into the situation at the time. In addition, on the periphery of the Hittite Empire, the Mitanni Kingdom rose to prominence in northern Syria, invading Aleppo and Kizzuwatna, while the Qashqa tribe held sway in northern Anatolia, putting the Empire in a difficult position, even taking Hattusa at one point.
